Our Benefits

As much as we enjoy working together, we don’t work for free. We get a lot of great benefits, including:

  • Between 21 and 25 days’ holiday. (And extra days when you reach 10, 20 and 25 years’ service.)
  • Everyone in our family values hard work and commitment. On average, after you've completed your training, you can expect to earn:
    • £19,540 (basic) pa as a Shop Manager
    • £16,870 (basic) pa as an Assistant Manager
    • £6.94/hr as a Senior Team Member
    • £6.52/hr as a Team Member (Team Members under the age of 18 start on £5.37/hr, rising to £5.55/hr after training
As you might expect, we may offer different salaries and pay rates depending on the location. Please see the job description for the vacancy you’re interested in for exact details.
  • A special card that gets you 50% off most of the food on your shop’s (or nominated shop’s) shelves. After a year, you’ll get the discount in any of our shops – and we’ll hand you another card to give to a spouse or dependant at the same address (over 16 years old).
  • Subsidised canteens for everyone working in our central bakeries.
  • A share of our profits. After six months service, you’ll be eligible for our profit share scheme, which pays out in June and December. We actually pay out 10%, spread across the business, based on your length of service and earnings (it’s also non-contractual and subject to change).
  • Lots of different share save schemes, so you can have an even bigger share of our profits (you can join these after a year).
  • A pension scheme, which you can join in either April or October, after you’ve been part of our family for six months (immediately for managers).
  • Childcare vouchers which (if you qualify for them) could save you anything from £75-£99 per month on registered or approved childcare (nurseries, childminders, afterschool clubs etc.) for a children aged between 0-16.
  • Life assurance, which you’ll get (for free) after a year (immediately for managers).
  • Lots of incentives – from Shop of the Year to quarterly targets and awards dinners, we’re big fans of competitions (and the prizes at the end of them).
  • Lots of social activities, like our Long Service Award Evenings or our Annual Dinner Dance, that give us the chance to get together outside of work.
  • An employee assistant programme, to help you stay happy and healthy. If something’s troubling you and you don’t feel you can talk to any of us, the programme gives you access to face-to-face or freephone support on anything from stress to personal issues, legal queries to financial, marital, career or health problems. And because they’re essentially our extended family, the programme’s open to all your relatives too.
  • For some management positions we offer Medical Insurance, mobile phone allowance and a company car (full details of your entitlement will be listed in the job description).
