Profiles Karlie, Central Data Team Administrator
"I've always liked working in offices. And when I saw an ad for a Data
Administrator at Greggs, it was the long list of different duties that
really caught my eye. I like having lots of things to do at work.
"The recruitment process impressed me too. Everyone made me feel at ease.
The only problem was that it made me want the job even more. Luckily, I
got it, and I've never regretted it for a moment.
Making friends
"It was a different beginning than I expected, though. Quite a few people
joined at the same time and we spent our first day getting to know each other.
It's amazing how much easier it is to remember a colleague's name when you've
seen it on a post-it note stuck to their head.
"On the second day, we all visited a local deaf school and worked on their
garden. It really hit home just how involved Greggs is with charities and
local communities. Everyone really enjoyed it. Plus, by the time we'd finished
we felt like we'd known each other for ages. I guess that shows the recruiters
here know a Greggs person when they see one.
"Anyway, I eventually got around to doing some work. And it's been all go since.
Every day, I get calls and emails from shops asking me to allocate them stocks
of flour, sugar and other raw ingredients, and ready-to-bake foods like our
savouries. It's a balancing act, because you don't want to over-order. But
at the same time, you don't want a busy high street shop to run out of, say,
mince pies at Christmas.
Learning from others
"If it sounds like a lot to do – it is! But on my first day, Kelly took me under
her wing. I still lunch with her most days. But right from the start, she's
always given me great training and advice. No one here makes you feel stupid,
no matter what question you ask.
"You get the same, approachable response when it comes to your PDRs – your
personal development reviews. If you want more responsibility, or even a move
to a different team, you'll get the help you need. And with Greggs being such
a big company, you know an opportunity will come along soon."
