"I first joined Greggs in a shop – part time, so that I could look after my four year-old son. I worked in the shop for 5 years then went to work part time at the Gosforth bakery as a receptionist for another 5 years, before moving to head office and working full time on the reception here.
"The Marketing Director joined the company and I worked for him as his PA. My job involved 3 parts, PA, customer service and marketing information. After a while I knew where my heart lay so took the job as customer care advisor working with the teams out in the regions.
Focusing on customers
"You'd be surprised how many people ring in just to tell you about a great experience they've had at Greggs. And it's always nice to speak to people who share my love for a good cheese and onion pasty.
"Once, this guy called up and asked for the details of a girl who used to work in his local shop. We couldn't give them to him, obviously. But we did promise to send her a message – telling her how much he liked her. Last I heard, they were engaged!
"Lots of customers telephoned to ask why we had stopped selling Ham & Pease Pudding Stottie in the North East a while ago. Because we listen to our customers we took the decision to re-instate it, and our Chief Executive even went on the local radio to announce its return!
"I've just been made Team Leader of our new central Customer Care service – we used to have different people looking after different regions. So I've just learnt how to interview, how to handle assessments and more. So while I've always enjoyed it here, I'm probably enjoying it here more than ever.
"And the people are lovely too. They really are. It’s the perfect job."
