Profiles Susan, Shop Manager
"As a shop manager, my duty here is to train the staff, my team, very well
for us to meet our targets. The management training – I found it very, very
supportive. And it helped me a lot. And it gave me the edge and energy to
pass onto the team, for us to get on with the job and do it properly.
"Our team is like a family. So, I mean, coming in – sometimes you get up and
you just don't want to come to work. But when you come in here, and then you
see your colleagues come in – we are all… we enjoy each others' company.
"When the sales are coming in, the shop is full of customers and you enjoy
talking to them and then serving them and then everybody's happy. The
customers go out happy, with anything that they want – it makes me very happy.
"At the end of the day, if you love what you're doing, you enjoy doing it.
It is very, very hard work. But if you love what you're doing, like I said,
you get through it and enjoy it while you go along.
"I manage my team in a way that everybody has been trained to do anything,
everything in the shop, basically. So, I don't have to be everywhere. I
support them, and then make sure that they do things right – to the
company's procedure.
"It's nice at the end of the day when you see your sales are up. And, you
know, you get a pat on your back from your Area Manager 'Oh, well done'.
You know, I really enjoy it, doing that."
